One of the best qualities I believe a leader can have is their clear understanding of the way they are impacted or influenced by external factors. Some of these we have no control over, but most of them we have complete control over.
The way we eat.
The sleep we get.
The habits we have.
How generous we are.
The people we surround ourselves with.
There is a reason people with addictions are not often top performers, and it is because that addiction is slowly sucking the life and purpose out of them. Even workaholics. Bad habits and negative surroundings don’t pile over you like an avalanche. They slowly chip away at self-esteem, ambition, and confidence until you’re left grabbing binoculars to get a glimpse of what was once your ceiling with no idea how to get back up there.
