They matter. If you are the interviewer, don’t be shy. Be direct. Ask questions that you believe will give you answers to whether or not that individual is going to help your company be more successful. If you don’t feel they adequately answered a question, dig deeper. If you need them to be a problem solver, have them solve a problem. Care more about the process of how they would go about solving it than whether or not their answer was right.
Hiring is the most important job you will do.
